Another familiar face to many, meet Miss Haylie Essenmacher! She will be teaching 4th grade this year. Miss Essenmacher graduated high school from HBCS in 2019, received her bachelor's degree from Western Governors University in December 2023, and will be completing her Master's degree, also from Western Governors University, before the beginning of the school year! She has been a familiar face at the school for the past four school years as she has been in various roles throughout the elementary school and she loves everything about our district! She is looking forward to a great school year and says as always, Go Pirates!🧡🖤

It's that time! Register your student for the upcoming school year. If you are new to the District, please contact the PreK-5 or the MS/HS Office to register your child and get your Skyward Information. For all returning families, please complete your registration online via Skyward. You can find the registration by logging into Skyward (not the app as registration is not supported here) and then clicking the Returning Student Registration button. You can then register each student. Please complete the registration to ensure that we have the most accurate and up-to-date information including address, phone, and email so we can communicate quickly with you. Don't fret if their registration is incomplete, as your child will still be able to attend in the fall. Questions? PreK-5 please contact tweeks@hbpirates.org or call ext 53102. MS/HS please contact lholdwick@hbpirates.org or call ext 53300. If you simply need your Skyward credentials or your password reset, please contact our Director of Technology droggenbuck@hbpirates.org or call ext 53439.

Introducing our next "new" staff member (who will look familiar!), Jackie Soper! Mrs. Soper is so excited to be teaching 10th and 12th grade ELA this year, in addition to the 6th grade Life Skills class she taught last year! She went to college at Michigan Technological University where she graduated with a BS in Business Administration and a Secondary Teaching Certification. She also has a Masters Degree from Spring Arbor University. She and her husband Kevin both grew up in the Thumb. They started dating while at Caro High School. After graduating college, they often moved for Kevin’s job with Dow Chemical/Corteva. They are happy to call Harbor Beach home after being here for the last eight years. They have two sons who both attend HBCS. Hackett is a senior and Tobin will be in 4th grade. Her favorite hobbies are reading, writing, and cooking. For the last few years, she has loved watching the Iowa Women's Basketball team so this summer she has been watching the WNBA and cheering on Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin. She is happiest living simply and spending time together as a family. She loves being back in the classroom and cannot wait to be with her new students this year. Her passion is helping students learn about themselves, the world around them, and helping them be the best humans they can be.

Back to school season is here! This summer, we have added some fantastic members to our staff and we would like to introduce them to you. Our first feature is Rodney Terwilliger! Mr. Terwilliger is from Bad Axe. He graduated a "Hatchet", but is now a "Pirate". He comes to Harbor Beach Schools from Our Lady of Lake Huron School, where he taught 4th and 5th grades. Mr. Terwilliger will teach special education for Harbor Beach and is very enthusiastic about the new opportunities and exciting challenges awaiting him. He received his B.A. from Siena Height University and his M.F.A. from Eastern Michigan University. In addition to teaching young minds, he enjoys reading good books, watching intense sports, and hanging out with family. Literature and History are his favorite subjects. He also makes a mean double chocolate-chocolate chip cookie.
