Mindful Monday
There are times when change and unfamiliarity can feel overwhelming. Sometimes fully engaging your senses can be calming in the moment.
Focus on five things that you can see.
Explore the texture of four things that you can feel.
Pause and listen to three things that you can hear.
Find two things that you can smell and slowly breathe in the scent.
Reflect on one thing that you are grateful for.
End with a long slow breath and check in with yourself: do you notice a shift in sensations, thoughts, or feelings?
“Step outside for a while. Calm your mind. It is better to hug a tree than to bang your head against a wall continually.” (Rasheed Ogunlaru)

Freshmen have met weekly with their mentor to practice these skills and successfully transition to high school
