Yesterday, the 6th graders had a chance to visit the Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse and Huron County Nature Center! Students took a tour of the lighthouse and museum and were able to learn how the lighthouse and life-saving station operate. At the Nature Center, they learned about the local plants and animals, did a walking scavenger hunt, and even spied a few sneaky creatures basking in the sun! Can you find them in the pictures? Thank you to all who made this trip possible!

This year, Harbor Beach is fortunate to once again have a School Resource Officer in our building daily. Welcome Officer Dave Wilson to our school! Get to know a little more about Officer Wilson: How long have you been a police officer? I have been a police officer for 14 years. Where did you attend high school? I attended Harbor Beach High School. What are you most excited about in your new role? I'm excited to be in a position to help bridge the gap between students and law enforcement. Having a chance to have positive interactions with kids and showing that police contact doesn't always need to be for a negative reason. What made you want to work at Harbor Beach Schools? I have coached youth sports for over 10 years and have always enjoyed helping the kids and watching them grow. I wanted to use this opportunity to help keep the school safe while I also get to watch the students grow throughout the school year. Where did you grow up? I grew up in Forestville. What do you do around the school? My number one job is ensuring that students and staff are safe but aside from that, I talk with students and build relationships with them, I also assist the staff with any issues they may have. What are some of your hobbies outside of being a police officer? I like to camp and deer hunt. I also coach hockey and middle school football.
