🌟 Shout out to Harbor Beach Community School’s amazing PTO and the incredible dedication of teachers Rachel Booms and Dawn Pleiness! Thanks to their hard work and commitment, our students get more opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive daily.
Interested in learning more about the PTO? Check out PR Class's interview with Mrs. Booms:
How long have you been involved in PTO?
I have been involved since the PTO started! It has been over 10 years for sure.
When do you meet?
We meet about once a month.
How can others get involved in PTO?
We are always looking for parents who would like to get involved. Our meetings are open to everyone and that is a great place to find out ways that you can help. Parents can also contact myself or Mrs. Pleiness if they are unable to make the meetings but would like to help in some way.
What is PTO's role in our district?
The PTO's main role is to support the students and staff at Harbor Beach Community Schools by providing enriching learning opportunities, fun events, and services such as the Book Fair and Holiday Gift Shop. We are also an avenue for teachers and school organizations to get extra funding for field trips, events or things needed in the classroom.
What events does the PTO organize?
We organize a variety of events, such as the Daddy Daughter Dance, Mother-Son Bowling, Holiday Gift Shop, Popcorn Fridays, and Book Fairs.
Why should other people want to be involved in PTO?
People should want to get involved because everything we do in the PTO is for the KIDS!
What does PTO stand for? And what is the meaning?
PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO is a partnership between the teachers and the parents working together to support our school.
What has been your favorite memory of anything involved with PTO?
I have loved bringing the Daddy-Daughter Dance to our school. I have been part of the planning for every dance that we have had and love the memories that are created that night!
10th grade students had the opportunity to attend the MiCareer Quest event hosted by GST MiWorks! Students were able to experience a variety of different careers in healthcare, manufacturing, construction, and more. Check out these photos from their trip!

Check out what's happening at HBCS this Halloween week!
On Saturday morning, American Degrees were awarded at the National FFA Convention. This is the highest degree awarded in FFA. Students must meet requirements for earnings in agriculture, community service and FFA involvement. It is awarded to members within the first few years after high school graduation to less than 1% of members. It is a great achievement, and a high honor. Congratulations to Devin Siemen, Steven Scholtz & Logan Kanaski!
Thank you for all that you do for the students of HBCS!
First grade had so much fun heading outside during PE this week to soak up the beautiful weather and learn how to play Gaga ball!
Craving some basketball in your life? Middle school girl's basketball games start next week!
The 3rd day of the National FFA Convention was spent at the Expo. Students talked to college representatives, played games to win hats and shirts, and talked to FFA members from around the country. After the convention, we went to Royal Pin for tacos, bowling, laser tag, and mini golf.
An FFA National Convention update from Indianapolis:
On Day 2, the convention was in full swing. Students went to the NCAA Hall of Champions, where they learned about college sports and were able to try some out. They also attended the opening session, which featured a great guest speaker, and the career show and expo. The evening wrapped up with a rodeo!
Our JV Football team wrapped up their season last night and our volleyball teams each brought home victories!

Our FFA has 9 high school students attending the 97th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this week. They joined students from North Huron, Ubly, Chesaning, and Lakers to share a bus and tours.
They stopped at Eastern Michigan Food Bank and packed over 10,000 lbs of food that will be distributed to senior citizens around Michigan.
Their second stop was at the Flint Farmers Market, where students did a scavenger hunt to explore the market and ate lunch.
Their last stop on day 1 was at Raker's Greenhouse. Students learned about running a commercial greenhouse.
Watch for more as the FFA member continues their week in Indianapolis!
